Packing Essentials 101
June 14, 2024
Packing for a trip can be the most stressful part of your vacation. Worrying if you are taking too much or not enough. Listed below are some tips that may help you pack your bags with more ease.
Pack Light
Pack for a vacation, not the apocalypse. The less you pack, the less you will have to carry around when you have to travel between each destination. Sometimes taking 7 days of clothes for a 14 day trip is fine. You can do laundry while on your trip. It's a great experience doing laundry with locals. Meet some new people and if you go with some friends, you can easily pass the time by playing card games or having lunch while you wait for your clothes.
Roll your clothes
Packing outfits will take up a lot of room in your suitcase. The best way to maximize your luggage space would be to roll your shirts, pants, shorts, underwear and skirts. You will be surprised how much more room you will have after you are done.
Carry on Bag
If you do decide to check a bag, be sure to pack your main toiletries in your carry on (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, etc..) as well as 2-3 days worth of clothes. The last thing you want is have the airline lose your checked bag in and have be stuck with only the clothes on your back until they locate and return your bag.
Camera
Taking the perfect snap shot while on vacation is very important. For most people, a cell phone is enough. But if you want to take photos to print out on a larger scale to hang on a wall, an actual camera will be your best option. Plus, the quality on a camera phone doesn't measure up to the one you will get on an actual camera.
Daypack
If you plan on doing a lot of walking on your trip, whether it's cityscapes, hiking or rural areas. It's always a good idea to have a daypack with you. Something you can take with you and carry essential items that you might need for the day (canteen, snacks, camera, anything you may buy along the way)
Passport & VISAS
The most important thing on this list. Before you are able to leave the country. You will need your passport. Make sure that it is valid for at least 6 months from the day of your trip. VISAS are also important, some countries may require you obtain a VISA in order to enter their country.
